Spend three nights in the at the Hotel Brunelleschi, in the heart of Florence, a few steps away from the imposing Cathedral, the treasures of the Uffizi Gallery and the Gallery of the Academy.

Follow with a few relaxing days in Montepulciano. Founded by the Etruscans in the 6th century it stands in a fortified position high up on a prominent ridge.

For many centuries Montepulciano has been one of the most influential cultural centre in Tuscany, today it welcomes its visitors into an intriguing maze of fine palazzos, incredibly picturesque piazzas, Renaissance churches and charming houses built in honey-coloured stone with softly aged terracotta roofs.

Montepulciano is also an excellent base to organise wine cellar tours and visit the nearby towns of Montalcino and Pienza.

    Depart from your accommodation. Transfer by van to Montepulciano, then set out through the countryside to Pienza.
    You will cycle across the green pastures where many cheese factories produce pecorino, the delicious pungent cheese made using milk from the sheep you'll see grazing alongside the road.
    Pienza is one of the most perfect Renaissance towns in Italy. Take a good look around at its surprising lovely churches, palazzi and squares.
    After Pienza you'll be taken downhill to the enchanting spa town of Bagno Vignoni, a small village whose ancient stone buildings cluster around a 150-by-90-foot pool of warm thermal waters.
    The effect is magical! You can choose to take a relaxing dip in the waters first, or head straight to lunch in a charming local tavern.
