Burma (Myanmar)

Burma. or Myanmar as it is latterly known by many, is the most recent addition to our online Indochina inventory, the country having recently eased its approach to international tourism with the military dictatorship taking a more open stance towards the West as well as offering conciliatory gestures towards its own opponents within the country. The liberation, after a long period of house arrest, of the opposition leader and national heroine, Aung Sang Suu Kyi, has led to many of those who had previously opposed the encouragement of tourism to the country now openly advocating it. The selection of local tourism partnerships in Burma remains absolutely crucial, however, with local people and concerns being the most important beneficiaries of this more open approach. All of our partners have been carefully chosen and we have done everything possible to ensure that the Burmese enterprises with which we are associated all provide tangible benefits to the local populace. Burma promises to be one of the most popular and exciting destinations in Asia over the course of the next decade. The continuing relaxation of restrictive policies and dictatorial attitudes by the military rulers will ensure that we all have the opportunity to experience its incomparable people, places and countless treasures, safe in the knowledge that the peoples of Burma receive the financial rewards and the resultant prosperity that they so justly deserve.
