Mauritius

Consistently popular with international holidaymakers, Mauritius was known to Arab traders as long ago as the 10th century. The islands were successively occupied by the Portuguese, the Dutch, the French and finally, the British, although French language and influences remain predominant to this day. Culturally Mauritius is the ultimate melting pot with Indian, African, European and Chinese settlers all having introduced their religions, languages, values and traditions to the island, highly visible in the diverse cuisine.
