Bird Island, as the name would suggest, is an ornithologists paradise, being home to a huge population of sooty terns from May to October along with 20 other species of birds. The island is also a breeding ground for both hawksbill and green turtles from October to February. The sole human abode on this 170-acre coral island, the most northerly of the Seychelles Group, is the family-run, eco-friendly, Bird Island Lodge which has been welcoming guests since 1973. It offers comfortable and spacious accommodation, preserving the islands natural, relaxed atmosphere at the same time. There are no TV's, no air-conditioning, no in-room telephones and no swimming pool. The island is fringed by soft, white sand beaches with safe swimming and snorkeling available in the clear waters offshore.
