The largest and most developed of Seychelles islands, Mahé is only 17 miles in length and between 2 and 5 miles wide. The interior is dominated by spectacular high granite peaks and outcrops surrounded by dense tropical forest. It is accessible by a series of walking trails and offers an impressive range of flora and fauna, much of it unique to Seychelles. Mahé's beaches are its principal attraction. Beau Vallon, in the north of the island, was once the most popular beach area in Seychelles. Thetown of Victoria, the world's smallest capital city, is home to over 90% of the population with visitor attractions such as the local market, the Victoria Botanical Gardens and the National Marine Park on offer.
